One of the most moving aspects of Parramatta Girls is Alana Valentine’s characterization, as the audience can discover the characteristics of the women as children, and then chart their progress and development into adulthood. Judi’s characterization perfectly explores the long-lasting effects of the trauma faced in the institution, as she eventually changes her name and struggles to remember the difficulties that she endured throughout her incarceration. Just as Judi dominated the scene with Lynette in the flashback, she dominated this one as well, and as the character of Lynette I had to ensure that my role was to support Judi in her expression of emotional development to the audience. This scene presents the physical suffering of Judi due to her time incarcerated, â€Å"Eighteen and a half to twenty-four. That’s when I worked in the brothels. And five. That’s how many terminations I’ve had.† Judi’s enduring emotional pain is even more disconcerting for the audience to be confronted with, as her lack of self-worth has influenced her character, â€Å"I carried one baby full term, but it was stillborn. Which was a shame because I was going to keep her. Ubuntu clearly states that the community are one, we must stand as one, be kind, unselfish and caring. According to the constitution (1996) section 2(11) everyone has the right to life. The constitution (1996) section 2(10) also states that everyone has their inherent dignity and their dignity respected and protected. B. Levin does have a point when he said the communityà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s rights are not enforced when a person is not getting medical treatment what they are entitled to. If you just pick a couple random companies to invest your well-earned money in, it would be more like gambling. Real Boys While Reading the book Real Boys by Dr. William Pollack, I realized that our society is holding boys to contradictory standards aiding the problems that many of them face while in adolescence. This book introduces the reader to numerous boys who share their feelings of shame and despair in trying to live up to the "Boy Code". Pollack feels the pain that comes from boys prematurely separating from their mothers puts them on the cycle to hardening themselves emotionally. The one acceptable emotion becomes anger. Throughout the book Pollack encourages parents to take time with their sons in helping them express their feelings while showing them empathy and love. Pollack discusses the ways parents can help their boys escape from the gender straightjacket that is imposed upon them. Pollack exposes myths that negatively portray boys as macho creatures shaped by testosterone with no social skills. He instead presents examples of boys who are emphatic as a result of nurturing parents and educates the reader to be aware that boys express their love through action and work. Pollack includes chapters regarding the different but equally important role of mothers and fathers in bringing up their sons. He also writes about the effect of healthy relationships with peers and the devastation that some boys feel when they discover they are homosexual. Pollack takes on the schools in failing boys in a number of ways but specifically for failing to understand the Boy Code. Boys continue to lose self-esteem as the mask of masculinity tightens and they conform to what society expects from them, interfering with their ability to learn effectively. Dr. Pollack not only gives us the problems that face the adolescent boy he also gives us suggestions to remedy and rectify the situation. This is nice instead of simply offering negative statements he actually offers the reader a solution. Another beneficial aspect of Dr. Pollack’s writing is the fact that he uses so many references to his research and the research of other notable psychologists instead of over emphasizing the personal instances in his own life. When he wants to emphasize a point with a real life person, he uses a third party. When speaking of these contradictory codes that a young boys is taught to live by, Dr. Pollack says: "Boys have had to learn to walk a fine line. Have intimacy without sentimen... ...ollack talks on breaking down gender stereotypes; he seems to perpetuate them by seeming to insist that the mom be the central part of upbringing. Who would you trust more when researching information for a class, a†¦show more content†¦Though one might argue that some pages have authors who are certified experts, most pages are anonymous and not credible. This same person might point to â€Å"The ‘Undue Weight’ of Tru th on Wikipedia† which states, â€Å"Wikipedia requires its contributors to rely on secondary sources† (Messer-Kruse 412). This being said, Wikipedia requires authors to have their information published previously, whether that means a book or a website. Let’s be honest for a second. How hard is it to create a website and write something on there? Not very hard, and that’s a secondary source right there. With anyone being able to create a web page and use it as a secondary source, Wikipedia is not a credible research method. When a teacher assigns a research paper, they expect the class to surf the internet and go to multiple web pages and actually learn something through the research. The point of research papers is not to type the topic into google and click on the first site and get all the information from that web page. The teacher wants the students to go digging for information from many different web pages and look around and click, click, click o n tons of links and find out opinions and facts and random information on the topic. With Wikipedia, one click can lead to all the information in one spot and there was no real research done.
